GRANUTEC® vermiculite: insulating, lightweight and versatile
CMMP produces GRANUTEC® expanded vermiculite at its plant in Saint-Quentin (Aisne), France. Here, we process high-quality raw materials in our own expansion furnaces. Each batch is checked during production, to guarantee stable particle size, homogeneous lamellar structure and consistent performance in line with our customers’ technical requirements.
GRANUTEC® vermiculite is a natural, high-performance technical material used in many industrial sectors.
It stands out for its thermal and sound insulation properties, exceptional absorption capacity and natural fire resistance. This expanded mineral is ideal for professionals looking for a reliable, neutral and safe multifunctional material.
GRANUTEC® vermiculite is made of expanded lamellar particles that are non-combustible and non-toxic, making it light, easy to handle and odorless. It withstands temperatures of up to 1100°C, without loss of structure or release of harmful substances. Its neutral pH and microporous structure ensure optimum compatibility with a variety of media, both liquid and solid.
Easy to pour, compact or mix, it enables precise dosage and seamless integration into a wide range of formulations. Bulk or agglomerated, vermiculite combines lightness, absorption and stability in demanding environments.
What are the applications for GRANUTEC® vermiculite?
In passive fire protection products, it is used in the composition of panels, fire doors, sprayed plasters or specific plasters. It is also mixed with cement to form lightweight, insulating and non-flammable concretes, often used for roofing, slabs, screeds or precast elements.
It is also used as thermal or sound insulation in partitions, floors, attics or cavity walls. Its insulating power limits heat loss in winter and overheating in summer, while absorbing airborne noise.
Its high absorbency makes it an excellent packaging material for fragile or chemical products, filling voids around irregular shapes. It is also used as an industrial absorbent for liquids or pollutants.
In the foundry and metallurgy sectors, vermiculite is applied as a cover for molten metal to reduce heat loss in ladles or ingot moulds.
It is also used in refractory products, asbestos-free friction linings and high-temperature cements. It is naturally resistant up to 1100°C without releasing toxic substances.
In animal nutrition, it is a neutral carrier for vitamin preparations, molasses or medical products. It regulates heat content and improves the homogeneity of mixtures.
Vermiculite is widely used in soil improvement, horticulture and hydroponics. It helps aerate substrates, retain water and nutrients, and stimulate root growth.
Technical advantages of GRANUTEC® vermiculite
GRANUTEC® vermiculite offers a stable, asbestos-free (certificate available on request) and naturally insulating mineral composition. It contains magnesium, silica, iron and oxides in an expanded lamellar structure.
This geometry gives it a high cation exchange capacity (CEC), useful for fixing and releasing nutrients or active substances. It also has a very high absorption capacity, up to 450% of its weight in water.
Vermiculite is non-abrasive, reflective, moldable, non-perishable and easy to handle. It does not degrade on storage, does not cause irritation, and remains stable over time.
Its fire resistance, lightness and chemical neutrality mean it can be used in dry, wet, sprayed or compact formulations. It can be used to lighten structures, provide thermal insulation, stabilize mixtures or protect sensitive components.

GRANUTEC® vermiculite: insulating, lightweight and versatile
Yes, GRANUTEC® vermiculite is highly suitable for lightweight, insulating, and fire-resistant concrete. Mixed with Portland cement and water, it forms a lighter and more thermally efficient concrete without compromising mechanical strength.
This concrete is used for roofing, slabs, screeds, or precast elements. It combines ease of handling, fire resistance and low thermal conductivity.
Formulations can be adjusted with or without resin depending on the project’s needs. Vermiculite acts as a technical aggregate that stabilizes the mix while reducing the weight of the finished product.
GRANUTEC® vermiculite: insulating, lightweight and versatile
Yes, GRANUTEC® vermiculite provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Its expanded lamellar structure traps air, limiting heat and sound transmission.
It is commonly used in loose-fill insulation for cavity walls, attics, floors, doors, and partitions. It helps stabilize indoor temperature by reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
It also absorbs airborne noise, making it useful in residential and industrial buildings. Easy to handle, it can be poured or blown into place depending on the site requirements.
GRANUTEC® vermiculite: insulating, lightweight and versatile
Yes, GRANUTEC® vermiculite is naturally non-combustible. It withstands temperatures up to 1100°C without degrading or releasing toxic fumes.
This property comes from its lamellar mineral structure and low thermal conductivity. It is widely used in passive fire protection systems, including sprayable coatings, prefabricated panels, fire doors, and fire-resistant plasters.
Vermiculite also plays a key role in refractory concrete formulations for high-temperature environments. Its dimensional and chemical stability ensures long-term fire resistance.
